Marine Fuel Bunker Conversion

Marine fuel bunkers are traditionally purchased on a dollar per metric ton (mt) basis, however the transaction is really about buying energy.

LNG offers a lower energy cost per metric ton – for example, when priced against Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (LSFO) its energy cost per metric ton is some 16% lower because it contains more energy for a given mass.

LNG as a marine fuel provides approximately 46.7 MMBtu (or 13.7 MWh) of energy per metric ton, whereas LSFO only provides about 40.2 MMBtu (or 11.8 MWh) per metric ton.
