SEA-LNG sends its support to IMO MEPC 84 delegates

Steve Esau, Chief Operating Officer, SEA-LNG:

SEA-LNG offers its full support to IMO MEPC delegates as they gather in London this week for MEPC 84. The task before them is genuinely difficult — reconciling a wide range of stakeholder positions on complex techno-economic questions in a challenging geopolitical environment — and we recognise the commitment and expertise delegates bring to that task.

Our position remains clear: there can only be one global decarbonisation framework for maritime. Regional fragmentation, with its risk of multiple and duplicated compliance costs, serves neither shipping nor the climate. We are calling for a framework that is goal-based and technology-neutral, that protects first movers, and that incentivises solutions which are practical, scalable and investable.

While Member State positions remain varied, we are optimistic that delegates can find common ground. SEA-LNG will be closely monitoring proceedings and stands ready to support the process, including by contributing the evidence base on methane-based pathways.
