LNG Protocol

Eurogas is an association representing the European gas wholesale, retail and distribution sectors towards the EU institutions.  Founded in 1990, Eurogas currently comprises 48 companies and associations from 22 countries.

Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) is an association representing the sole interest of the infrastructure industry in the natural gas business such as Transmission System Operators, Storage System Operators and LNG Terminal Operators.  GIE has currently 69 members in 26 European countries.  Its mission is to actively contribute to the construction of a single, sustainable and competitive gas market in Europe underpinned by a stable and predictable regulatory framework as well as by a sound investment climate.

SEA-LNG works in partnership with GIE to ensure the views of their members are known within all key European Union institutions.

GIIGNL is a non-profit organisation whose objective is to promote the development of activities related to LNG: purchasing, importing, processing, transportation, handling, re-gasification and its various uses.   GIIGNL has a worldwide focus and its 88 members represent nearly all companies in the world active in the import and regasification terminalling of LNG.

The International Gas Union (IGU) was founded in 1931. It is a worldwide non-profit organisation registered in Vevey, Switzerland with the Secretariat currently located in Barcelona, Spain.  The mission of IGU is to advocate gas as an integral part of a sustainable global energy system, and to promote the political, technical and economic progress of the gas industry.  Their 160+ members  represent over 95% of the global gas market covering the complete value of gas chain from exploration and production, transmission via pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) as well as distribution and combustion of gas at the point of use.

We are the representative body of the European Natural Gas Industry on all technical issues. We aim to monitor and take influence when needed on European technical regulation, standardisation and certification with respect to integrity and safety of pipeline systems, equipment, and the rational use of energy.

The Natural & bio Gas Vehicle Association (NGVA Europe) is the European association that promotes the use of natural and renewable gas as a transport fuel.  NGVA Europe is a platform for the industry involved in producing and distributing vehicles and natural gas, including component manufacturers, gas suppliers and gas distributors.

The Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF) is a NGO established to promote safety and industry best practice in the use of gas as a marine fuel. It has Consultative Status with the International Maritime Organisation.  The Society is governed by a representative Board, and driven by two principal Committees; Technical and Environmental.

SEA-LNG has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SGMF.  SGMF was a 25% partner with SEA-LNG in commissioning the thinkstep (now Sphera) study into the Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission for LNG as a marine fuel.  While SEA-LNG’s prime focus is to act as an advocate for LNG as a marine fuel, focused on the commercial and promotional aspects, SGMF’s focus is on the technical and operational of LNG and other gaseous marine fuels.

The Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) was formed as an international organisation through which all industry participants might share experiences, addreess common problems and derive agreed criteria for best practices and acceptable standards.
